As an animal chaplain, I provide compassionate support to individuals and families grieving the loss of a beloved pet. The bond we share with our pets is unique, and their loss can leave us heartbroken with additional challenges that we may not have when we lose other family members. Many who have not experienced this kind of relationship may not fully understand the depth of that grief, often creating a sense of isolation or even shame. Others may downplay your feelings, treating the loss as “less significant” because your pet was not a person. This stigma around mourning a pet can make it even harder to cope with the reality of your grief.
I honor the truth of your pain and recognize that the loss of a pet is a real, significant, and deeply personal experience. In my support services, we acknowledge and validate your feelings, providing a safe space for you to mourn without judgment. Whether you choose to join my regularly scheduled online grief support group through Zoom or prefer one-on-one meetings, we will work together to explore the complexities of your grief in a compassionate and understanding environment.
In the grief support group, you will connect with others who understand what it feels like to lose a pet and find comfort in shared experiences. For more personal and individualized attention, my one-on-one sessions—offered online or in person—allow us to discuss your grief in depth and at your own pace. We also work through ways to communicate your loss to others and navigate relationships with those who may not fully understand the significance of losing a pet. Together, we can explore how to talk about your grief in a way that honors your feelings and helps others to understand and respect the depth of your loss.
Grieving a pet can feel like an isolating experience, but you do not have to go through it alone. Whether in a group setting or in private sessions, I am here to support you, to honor your pet’s memory, and to help you find healing and hope moving forward.
